In Bihar’s East Champaran, Govt Schools To Give Green Vegetables In Mid-day Meals

The schools will get vegetable supplies from Tirhut Vegfed Union committees.

Mithilesh Mishra, Director of the Bihar Mid-day Meal Scheme, has sent a letter to all District Programme Officers outlining his instructions.

Children in government schools in Bihar’s East Champaran district will now get veggies with their mid-day meals. The necessary preparations have been made by the concerned officials. According to Local18, the schools in the East Champaran district will receive fresh green veggies from the vegetable producer committee. To help them become self-sufficient, a cooperative committee will provide the vegetables.

Children will now be given fresh green veggies in it as well. In regions like East and West Champaran, including Gopalganj, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, and Sheohar, preparations are underway to offer vegetables to children. These schools will receive vegetable supplies from Tirhut Vegfed Union committees.

The Mid-day Meal Scheme Bihar Director, Mithilesh Mishra, has instructed all District Programme Officers in a letter that was sent out in this respect.

The directorate’s letter stated that under the Bihar State Vegetable Processing and Distribution Scheme, priority should be given to supplying fresh vegetables to vegetable-producing cooperative societies. As a result, schoolchildren will be provided with high-quality fresh and green vegetables during mid-day meals.

Meanwhile, Tirhut Vegfed President Amit Kumar Shukla stated that providing vegetables to schools will bolster the union. Even the business of vegetable-producing committees will grow, resulting in financial success.

Furthermore, the vegetable distribution will shortly commence in schools in all seven districts of Tirhut Union, after vendor registration. Additionally, Tirhut Union is attempting to conduct commerce on a global scale. Also, preparations are ongoing to supply produce to Nepal and other countries, reports state.

In December 2023, students at a government girl’s middle school in Gaya, Bihar, protested after discovering insects in their mid-day meal. Students reported that they had been finding insects in their food for the past week and had protested to the teachers, but had received no results.

“We were given khichdi-chokha as the mid-day meal. A majority of students ate the food and they also found insects. I also found insects in food. Following that we have complained to the Principal but he has not said anything,” said a student Preeti Kumari as per News18.
